Alopecia
We commonly see men with receding forehead and thinning hair on top but women is not spared with this condition. The medical description of loss of hair from the head or body is called alopecia. There are underlying factors why we experience excessive hair fall, it may be caused by trichotillomania, a psychological compulsion wherein one may pull out his own hair or sudden result of hairstyling, too tight ponytails or braids, or may be caused by caustic hair relaxer solutions or hot irons. It may also be an indication of primary health concern, for instance iron deficiency.
The most common is the alopecia areata wherein hair loss takes place in only one section. There are signs like sudden loss of hair with appearance of patches on the body areas and the scalp. It may result to complete baldness in the affected area if left untreated or if it does not respond to medical treatment. This condition is known to be as alopecia totalis. Complete hair loss in the entire body which is similar to the effect of chemotherapy is known as alopecia universalis.
Loss of facial hair especially the beard is called alopecia barbae which may occur to both men and women. The usual sign of this condition is losing hair in small circular spots. Causesof this condition is yet unknown but hair may again grow soon but to some it may be a lifetime condition.
There are various vitamins that are known to help and promote hair growth, like vitamins A,C,.E,B3,B5,B6 and Bl2. But before taking vitamins for thinning hair you should know first what condition you are going through.
